When it comes to replacing your home’s windows, the options can often be overwhelming. There is an enormous amount of styles to choose from, and all of the styles have their strengths and uses. However, if you don’t know what each window is used for, it can be difficult to know what to install where. Let’s take a look at a few of the most popular window styles and where you might want to install them.
Double-Hung Windows
Arguably the most common style of window, double-hungs are a classic style. They are operated by opening the sashes from either the bottom or the top, as they operate independently. Furthermore, newer double-hung windows often have latches that allow you to tilt the sashes inward, making them easy to clean, even on second and third-story windows. If you’re looking for a window that’s easy to operate and maintain, double-hungs fit well in any room!
Casement Windows
Another extremely popular style of window is the casement. It is designed to be opened and closed via a crank that opens the window horizontally outwards. This makes it them a fantastic choice for any rooms where opening a double-hung window might be difficult, such as in the kitchen where you might have wet hands while you’re washing dishes but need some fresh air!
Awning Windows
Almost the same style as casements, awnings are also operated via crank, but rather than opening horizontally outwards, they open vertically. This makes them great to help to keep your home ventilated during rainy days without letting water in the home. They are often utilized in hallways, but they work in any room in the home!
Picture Windows
If you’re trying to flood your home with natural light, try installing picture windows! This beautiful style of window consists of a large, stationary window which is inoperable. They exist solely to provide a room with as much natural light as possible! If you’re interested in boosting the amount of light in your home, try adding a couple of picture windows in areas that already have a good draft when the other windows are open!
Slider Windows
Finally, another very popular window style that has a great deal of utility is the slider window. It is easy to open, which makes it good for hard to reach areas, similar to casement windows. However, it’s important to keep in mind that slider windows open very wide and they’re easy to operate, so if you have any small children around, it’s better to keep slider windows out of the rooms where children might try to use them.
